Steel Sewage Tank Lining

The waste water treatment industry finds innumerable uses for SolarShell including lining steel sewage tanks for corrosion protection against sewage waste.

In this example the water treatment plant wanted to protect a new tank before it went into use at the treatment facility.

The entire inside of the tank was sandblasted and primed with SolarRes. SolarShell was then applied over the primer and seams coated with SolarRes.

The water treatment plant enjoyed a quick turnaround (SolarShell cures in around 15 minutes or less), easy application that required no special tools or equipment, a seamless system, and full mechanical and chemical resistance.  [Read more...]

Dragged Pipe Protection

A leading oil and gas company required a .6 mile long pre-coated pipeline to be dragged under a highway and a canal. The first attempt was made with a standard painted-on coating and resulted in substantial damage to the coating. SolarShell was then applied, and the pipe was dragged under highway and canal with no damage.

SolarShell laminate with no primer was used in this application. SolarShell was applied in the factory and the pipe welded together in the field. Weld joints were then protected with SolarShell in the field.

The customer enjoyed the benefits of an easy application that required no mixing, heating or special equipment to apply. The rapid curing and hand application created quick turnaround on this project. Reinforced seams and seamless overlaps provide full mechanical protection to the pipeline. [Read more...]

A Better Way to Cure

SolarShell is a uv-curing laminate – getting best response and curing time from the 340 – 400 Nanometer range. In the past we have developed many curing systems using Fluorescent UV bulbs and ballast, but found that these parts are typically difficult to come by. Considering that a back-up curing system should always be on-hand during installs, we decided to go back to the drawing board and research other lighting options. [Read more...]

We wanted to find out just what kind of internal pressure SolarShell can take – so we put it to the test. In this video:

  1. Test 1.0 – SolarShell applied directly over a hole in pvc pipe with no primer.
  2. Test 1.1 – SolarShell applied with SolarRes primer over a hole in pvc pipe.
  3. Test 1.2 – SolarShell applied with SolarRes primer over a hole in steel pipe.

City of Watertown WWTP Gutter Repair

City of Watertown WWTP Gutter Repair

The City of Watertown, WI’s waste water treatment plant has been battling with leaking gutter seams since 2003 when their building was built.

Several other methods of repair have been tried and have failed. SolarShell was applied and has been the only lasting and effective solution.

The Water Systems Manager is now using SolarShell for other applications in his plant as well as the gutter repair.
